STUDS
There are 4 Type of Studs
Screw-in studs
have the advantage that the studs can be changed according to the type of ground you are playing on. So you can take one pair of boots to the game, and change the studs if necessary. On muddy, soft pitches it's better to use longer studs whereas on harder, dry pitches short studs are best. Buying a second pair of studs is cheaper than buying a second pair of boots. When changing studs, apply a little grease to thread to stop them rusting. Rusted studs can be difficult to remove.
Moulded studs
are better on hard, dry pitches, and have the advantage of reducing the risk of blisters. This is because the larger number of studs distributes the pressure more evenly on your foot. If your feet are suffering on hard pitches with blisters, then you could try moulded studs or using shorter screw-in studs that are designed for harder pitches. You could also try using a padded instep inside your boots.
Blades
are designed to make turning easier, and on some models can be changed according to the pitch conditions.
Astroturf trainers
have large numbers of dimples on theie soles. They are designed for all-weather astroturf ptiches on which they provide superior grip. They are designed to reduce the pounding on your feet and ankles on these type of pitches. However, they are unsuitable for most grass pitches. The only time you might consider wearing astroturf trainers on grass is at the beginning of the season if the pitch is very hard.
